Poly Electrolytes are polymers bearing an electrolyte with every other unit of polymer. Polycations and Polyanions are polyelectrolyte. These groups will dissociate in aqueous solutions, making polymers charged. As the name suggests, poly electrolytes possess the qualities of both Polymers and Electrolytes and are sometimes called as polysalts too. This solution is conducive as salts and vicious as polymer. It is used in the Laboratory for DNA Tests some commonly used electrolytes are polypeptides, glycosaminoglycans and DNA are polyelectrolytes. Both natural and synthetic polyelectrolytes are used in many industries. They are mostly used in aqueous solutions and gels for example, they can be used to either stabilize colloidal suspensions or initiate flocculations. They can also be used to surface charge to neutral particles. They are often used as thickeners, emulsifiers, conditioners, flocculants and even drag reducers.
